"2:1
But there were false prophets also among
the people, even as there shall be false
teachers among you, who privily shall bring
in damnable heresies, even denying the
Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves
swift destruction.
2:2 And many shall
follow their pernicious ways; by reason
of whom the way of truth shall be evil
spoken of.
2:3 And through covetousness
shall they with feigned words make merchandise
of you: whose judgment now of a long time
lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth
not."

. . But not in my Backyard
Prayer
at the Carmike - The Da Vinci Code
Friday,
19 May 2006 Despite
the fact that there are a number of 'decent'
movies available this weekend, the Cullman
Carmike Cinemas chose to go with one that
was predicted to bring in a sizable amount
of money for them, namely the controversial The
Da Vinci
Code.
Today
was the opening of the anti-Christian flick and
there were many people from the area and even several
from far away that opted to go to the theater
but to quietly stay outside in prayer and bring
attention to the fact that it stands against everything
Christians stand for.
How
is that our city, which was founded on Christian
values, now lowers its moral stature in allowing
one of our public businesses to bring in a video
that clearly degrades all that we believe in?
I can answer that with one word - money.
|
When did we start allowing our moral character
to decay?
A peaceful reminder of our loss was in order
today thanks to these people
who took time to stand for what they believe
in.
|
|
It
is clear that a great number of people were out
to satisfy their curiosity while others had
to quinch their need to escape through an animal
cartoon Over the Hedge. Either way,
they are supporting a business that propogates
entertainment which demoralizes and degrades
our community.
Gone
are the days when most people prefer movies that
taught us how to love one another and place family
needs before our own personal wants. Movies like
those filmed on Walton's Mountain can be found
outside prime time on television and are in jeopardy
of being replaced with reruns of Lost or Will
and Grace.
If
your children are too young to see the movie,
a good rule of thumb is that it probably isn't
of good value for you either. We slowly grow
to accept that which is contrary to our base
beliefs and are willing to allow it if someone
else says they have no problem with it. Take
a stand for what you believe to be good and true
and listen to your conscience. The people in
the photographs above took a stand and felt they
had to remind everyone entering the door what
they were about to do.
There
were many parents that dropped their children
off to use the movie as a baby sitter. What
happened when the kids chose to go to the other
movie? I've seen it happen many times.
The
Carmike needs to re-evaluate future showings
and remember that it is the community that supports
them. In a very few short years the seats
will begin to tear and the stained carpet will
begin to smell and people will no longer have
reason to visit their building if they continue
to show movies of questionable value.
Thank
you to the people who stand on their moral foundations
which were tested and are the better for it.
Beware of the quiet evil that approaches from
behind and listen to those who care for you as
a person and not the leather wallet in your back
pocket.
Where
is Cullman heading and what will our children
and grandchildren inherit? Where are our
city leaders in making proper decisions for the
betterment or our community?
Heads
up people. We are being warned. Please take heed
and do not wait for someone else to make the
wrong decision for your future!
