One man's trash is another's man's treasure but this is just pure old nasty garbage.

. . . But not in my Backyard

More garbage in our backyard?

A little harder throw and it would have cleared both fences.

Monday, 1 August 2005  It was just a matter of time, just didn't think it would happen this soon.

This bag of beverage cups and popcorn bags found its way from the new Carmike Cinema 10 theatre into our backyard along with several other items of garbage. The dumpster is on the other side of the theatre but I guess our backyard fence was closer. The flies were already hovering over the openings where the hot sun was heating up the spoiled popcorn with hours old butter and water diluted drinks.

How would you like to find your child pulling out bags of stale popcorn and drinking from a cup that hours previous may have belonged to a tobacco chewing movie goer. Luckily this didn't happen but it was in our yard.

We don't know who threw this bag of refuse over into our yard but it definitely did come from the Carmike Cinema 10 next door and found it's way over the 'barrier'. It takes more than the wind to send glass bottles and ten-pound plus bags of refuse over a 6-foot fence. What's sad is we know this won't be the last time this will occur, that we are sure of.

What we find hard to swallow is the ill considerate behavior of one or two who make others look bad. I'm sure the Carmike company would like to find out who these people are just as much as we do.

In addition to this, at our back gate was an empty beer bottle just waiting for a little barefoot boy to find. Luckily it didn't break against the metal post it was lying next to. What if one of our children was playing next to the fence when one of these glass bottles came sailing over?

Do we enjoy living in Cullman? What do you think? I grew up here and worked hard with my wife to provide a decent home to raise our children only to be dusted, shaken, starred at, listen to loud Hispanic music, and pick up nasty garbage belonging to other people in my own back yard.

Is this the community I would recommend to anyone in a similar position? No, but my house is up for sale if you know of anyone interested in buying a 5 bedroom home convenient to the best Cullman has to offer.

What a nice present to find this afternoon, but not totally unexpected.

Beer bottles and old popcorn bags.

You can't see it in this photograph but this area is full of trash.
