“I thank God, that if I am gifted with little of the spirit which is able to raise mortals to the skies, I have yet none, as I trust, of that other spirit which would drag angels down.”

. . . But not in my Backyard

Thursday, 5 August 2004 -My wife called and said I had to come experience the amount of vibration that was occurring in our home to believe it. I thought she was kidding me until at lunch I found out how true she was speaking. Everything in the house that could shake was shaking. The crew in our backyard was using all their grading equipment immediately behind our house to pack down the dirt and was oblivious of the effect it might be causing just next door.

I called the mayor's secretary just to let her hear the commotion of shaking windows and rattling doors and wishing she could feel the vibration come through the house to the other side. Even before I got out of my truck upon pulling into the driveway you could feel the vibration. Is this acceptable and responsible behavior of the contractor, developer and even the city leaders?

Even the Newspaper Agrees   I thought it quite ironic that today's headline in the Cullman Times newspaper, Dirt moving for movies: Ground broken for new theater, Terri Brunck started out with the sentence, "With heavy machinery rumbling in the background, Drinkard Development . . . ". Thank you Terri for seeing, and feeling, the adverse effects of what we've been experiencing since July 20th. Unannounced at that.

Thank goodness for the home inspection that was done prior to all this commotion. I will have another done after the dust settles to see what damage was done. Are there any lawyers (outside Cullman) interested in chewing on this?
